This is a very exciting time for us here. A lot has been changing in the background over the last couple of years: changes in leadership, in our group of fosters, and in our internal processes. All of this was done to ensure the health and longevity of this wonderful rescue, so that we can continue to serve animals in need for years to come.

For a bit of backstory, Solas was founded in 1995 by a group of people who saw a need to support the animals at the Council Bluffs animal shelter, which was severely underfunded even for basics like medicine.

Eventually, Solas became licensed as a rescue so they could begin fostering some of the shelter’s neediest animals. Skip forward 20 years, and the city shelter no longer exists, instead replaced by a larger humane society. At that point, Solas began shifting to being a traditional rescue. We take in needy animals (mostly cats) from various places, vet them, rehabilitate them, and find them loving homes.

Skip forward another 10 years, and we are still serving animals in need. We accept many cats found as strays or dumped, kittens that have lost their mamas, and some owner surrenders when space allows. We are still a network of foster homes. We have no facility and no paid employees. Although we have many great relationships and friendships within the metro animal rescue community, we are independent and not affiliated with any other rescue.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and our cause for the last 31 years, and we hope we can continue to count on you for the future, because we can’t do this without you. We provide the love, care, and space in our homes, but count on support from all of you for supplies, funds to cover the ever-increasing vet bills, and other expenses.
